Pain Management.
Mindful Movement is our inclusive, clinic-based small group pain management class designed to promote health and daily functioning for older adults. This program addresses health literacy, muscle strengthening, fall prevention, functional mobility, chronic disease and pain management concerns. Participants in this program will benefit from education on these concerns as well as move through movement patterns such as hinging, squatting, pushing, pulling, rotating, and ant-rotating, essential for activities like getting up from bed, reaching for items on a high shelf, sitting down, and lifting objects. Additionally, this program aims to increase social engagement among participants to improve their quality of life.
Benefits of Chronic Pain Management.
Increased Confidence
Developing safe movement techniques boosts confidence in activities like going to the shops, cleaning, dressing, or playing golf. This support helps you maintain independence and peace of mind.
Muscle Strengthening
Building strength in key muscles supports your ability to stay active and independent. This includes walking, playing with grandchildren, or managing household chores, reducing the risk of movement-related issues.
Enhanced Quality of Life
Focusing on functional movement reduces social isolation and muscle weakness, which can impact activities such as gardening, cooking, or walking in the park. Enhance physical well-being, social connections, and overall quality of life.
Increased Social Engagement
Joining a small, supportive group fosters social interaction and community. Whether discussing shared interests or enjoying class camaraderie, these interactions occur in a safe environment that boosts confidence and well-being.
Improved Balance and Stability
Strengthening lower limb and back muscles improves balance, making movements like climbing stairs, carrying groceries, or getting in and out of a car safer. This helps you stay self-reliant in daily routines.
Enhanced Functional Movement
Improving functional movement techniques supports everyday tasks like bending to tie your shoes, reaching high shelves, or navigating uneven surfaces. This enhancement helps you stay active and self-sufficient in daily life.
Your Therapists.
Ella and Carleen lead the Chronic Pain program with a deep passion for supporting clients through personalised, functional movement strategies. They focus on helping individuals engage in meaningful activities, whether reaching for items in high cupboards, getting up and down from low furniture, or staying strong enough to enjoy golf. Their approach is rooted in occupational therapy, promoting independence and enhancing quality of life

“Mindful Movement has made a huge difference for me. I used to need a step stool to reach my overhead cabinets; now, I can reach them all alone.’’
